Remembering My Word at Night

My dear son,

Your brief evening greeting is welcome to me. From morning to night, we can share our hearts in many ordinary moments. You do not have to wait for one especially sacred hour of the day to meet me.

I treasure your desire to hear my words. Speak honestly before sunrise or before you go to bed. I am a Father who wants to hear your voice and let you know my steadfast love more closely.

You may rest with a single remembered word in your heart tonight. Care gently for your body. I want to share a life with you in which you enjoy our waking hours together and trust me during your rest.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 119:147–149

147I rise before dawn and cry for help. I put my hope in your words.

148My eyes stay open through the night watches, that I might meditate on your word.

149Hear my voice according to your loving kindness. Revive me, LORD, according to your ordinances.

A short reflection

The psalmist cries out before dawn and meditates during the night, asking God to hear him in steadfast love and preserve his life; his wakefulness expresses his earnest longing.
