Close Enough to Ask Me to Hold You

My dear son,

Please do not find it difficult to ask me to hold you up. I am not a Father who waits only to see what you can manage alone. The trust in your outstretched hand is very precious to me too.

I want you to live with hope in my promise. On days when you need help, keep my teaching close and ask me what is right. May dependence on my hand and the joy of faithful living belong together in your life.

Tell me freely about your hopes this evening. Lean on me instead of adding to what you silently carry alone. You may remain a child who learns and receives love beside your Father.

With all my love,
Your Father

116Uphold me according to your word, that I may live. Let me not be ashamed of my hope.

117Hold me up, and I will be safe, and will have respect for your statutes continually.

A short reflection

The psalmist asks God to sustain him according to his promise, preserve his life, and keep his hope from disappointment, while he continues attending to God's statutes.
