Speaking Honestly about Waiting
My dear son,
Tell me what waiting feels like in your heart. You do not need to speak only in calm, composed sentences. I want to hear tenderly what my beloved child longs for and how you are living through the day.
Even if you feel like a wineskin shriveled in smoke, hold on to my words and call me. You do not have to show unchanging strength before you can approach. I welcome your hope and your honest plea together.
Tonight you need not pretend to be all right in my presence. If you are peaceful, share that joy; when you rest, rest freely. Your story of waiting can be entrusted to your Father too.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 119:81–83
WEB81My soul faints for your salvation. I hope in your word.
82My eyes fail for your word. I say, “When will you comfort me?”
83For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke. I don’t forget your statutes.
A short reflection
Longing for salvation, the psalmist describes a fainting soul, failing eyes, and feeling like a wineskin in smoke, yet continues to remember God's statutes.
