A Song to Carry Wherever You Go

My dear son,

Carry my words into everyday life as you might bring a favorite song on a journey. You can call me in unfamiliar places and on familiar evenings alike. Wherever you are staying, I want you to know me as a nearby Father.

May my teaching become your song through the days of your pilgrimage. I hope following my ways becomes the joy of discovering love, rather than only a weight to carry. Call my name tenderly in the night too.

Enjoy some rest wherever you are tonight. Offer a warm greeting to those sharing that place with you. I am glad that your ordinary life has room for time we can share.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 119:54–56

54Your statutes have been my songs in the house where I live.

55I have remembered your name, LORD, in the night, and I obey your law.

56This is my way, that I keep your precepts.

A short reflection

The psalmist describes God's statutes as his songs during his earthly pilgrimage, remembers God's name at night, and finds blessing in following his commands.
