A Gaze That Reaches the Lowly
My dear son,
When I look at people, I see more than whether they hold a high position. I hope you will look beyond possessions and status to the person before you. Listen gently to the voices you can hear only by drawing close.
I want you to know my heart for humbling proud power and attending to the troubles of the poor. My steadfast love does not pass by those in lowly circumstances. As you come to know that love, may your own gaze grow warmer.
Tell me who you would like to pray for tonight. If you have kindness to share, offer it gladly. I treasure the heart that regards the person receiving it with dignity.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 107:40–43
WEB40He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in a trackless waste.
41Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction, and increases their families like a flock.
42The upright will see it, and be glad. All the wicked will shut their mouths.
43Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things. They will consider the loving kindnesses of the LORD.
A short reflection
The psalm recalls God humbling the powerful and lifting the poor from affliction, and calls the wise to reflect on the Lord's steadfast love.
