Gratitude That Remembers the Harbor

My dear son,

My heart warms at the thought of you having somewhere to rest after your day's work. As a ship seeks harbor after crossing the sea, people need a place to settle. I hope your evening holds that room to breathe.

People called to me even from ships tossed by a storm. When their own skill had reached its limit, they sought my help. A day when you know fewer ways forward need not be a day of distance between us. Come close then too.

If this moment is peaceful, receive it gratefully. Remember with thanks anyone who has made a welcoming place for you. I hope you can freely accept the joy of receiving help.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 107:27–30

WEB

27They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.

28Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distress.

29He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.

30Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven.

A short reflection

The psalm recounts how sailors whose skill failed in a storm cried to God, who calmed the sea and led them to their desired harbor.
