Wisdom to Count Your Days
My dear son,
As this day ends, I want to remind you how precious our time together is. You cannot hold on to every day that flies past, but you can receive and treasure the love offered today.
Ask me for wisdom to number your days. Alongside the work that fills your calendar, leave room to look into the faces of those you love. I want to teach you how to care tenderly for the time you have been given.
Receive the ordinary moments of this evening with gladness. A shared meal or a quiet greeting can carry real affection. It makes me happy to see you discover the worth of a day beside me.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 90:10–13
WEB10The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.
11Who knows the power of your anger, your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?
12So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13Relent, LORD! How long? Have compassion on your servants!
A short reflection
Reflecting on the brevity of human life amid toil and sorrow, the psalmist asks for wisdom to number his days and for God's compassion.
