Learning the Love That Is Patient
My dear son,
There is patient love in the way I look at you. Please do not picture me as a Father who quickly turns away when you struggle to get something right. Come to know my mercy and faithfulness, and lean on me freely.
I am gracious and slow to anger. When you need help and strength, seek my face and call honestly. Even on your clumsy days, I want you to rely on my love and truth.
Tell me your story plainly tonight. May warmth grow in the words you offer others too. I gladly hope that the love you receive from me will make its home in your heart and reach the people beside you.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 86:15–17
WEB15But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth.
16Turn to me, and have mercy on me! Give your strength to your servant. Save the son of your servant.
17Show me a sign of your goodness, that those who hate me may see it, and be shamed, because you, LORD, have helped me, and comforted me.
A short reflection
Threatened by enemies, the psalmist affirms God's compassion, patience, and faithfulness, and asks for mercy, strength, and help.
