The Joy of a Place beside Me

My dear son,

What matters to me is more than the position you hold. I care about whom you are with and the heart you bring. You can remain faithful in love in places few people notice. Do not judge your place only by the rank others give it.

I hope you enjoy being with me enough to value one day in my courts above a thousand elsewhere. As your Father, I want the welcome of my house to mean more to you than the splendor of a high position.

Enjoy your time beside me tonight. I welcome you without requiring an extraordinary achievement. Here is a Father's delight in facing you and sharing an ordinary day.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 84:8–10

WEB

8LORD, God of Armies, hear my prayer. Listen, God of Jacob. Selah.

9Behold, God our shield, look at the face of your anointed.

10For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

A short reflection

The psalmist asks God to hear his prayer and values a day in God's courts and a humble place at his house above dwelling in the tents of the wicked.
