Questions Turned toward Love

My dear son,

I welcome your desire to understand my love more deeply. Ask me when something is difficult to understand. Having questions does not mean distance must grow between us. We can talk about them together.

Even if you wonder whether my love has ended, bring that question to me. I want to hear your story instead of scolding you for asking. I welcome the words you are not yet sure of when you bring them to your Father.

Tell me what you wonder about tonight. You can learn slowly beside me without forcing everything into one conclusion. I treasure the time when you ask honestly and listen to what I have to say.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 77:7–9

WEB

7“Will the Lord reject us forever? Will he be favorable no more?

8Has his loving kindness vanished forever? Does his promise fail for generations?

9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?” Selah.

A short reflection

Exhausted by suffering, the psalmist asks whether God's favor, love, and compassion have ended; the questions are a lament directed to God, not a settled declaration of abandonment.
