Α · ΩEnd Your Day

Even Where Words Fall Silent

My dear son,

Time spent quietly together is precious to us too. I can wait when your feelings do not immediately become sentences. You do not need to prepare every word before you come to be with me.

If a day comes when long prayer brings little sense of comfort, tell me about that. You can stay near even when you have no strength to keep speaking. My love does not retreat because you cannot give an energetic response.

If your heart is at ease tonight, enjoy that peace. If someone beside you is quiet, do not hurry them to speak. Offer the same patient room that I offer you. Your gentle presence can be a meaningful act of love.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 77:1–4

WEB

1My cry goes to God! Indeed, I cry to God for help, and for him to listen to me.

2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord. My hand was stretched out in the night, and didn’t get tired. My soul refused to be comforted.

3I remember God, and I groan. I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah.

4You hold my eyelids open. I am so troubled that I can’t speak.

A short reflection

In distress, the psalmist seeks God through the night but cannot find comfort and becomes too overwhelmed to speak; these verses give honest expression to suffering.
