Praise That Remembers Love
My dear son,
I enjoy an evening spent looking back on our conversations. Tell me slowly about what you hoped for and what made you grateful. Your voice is precious to me. Do not picture your Father as someone who casually lets your prayers pass by.
Ask for the help you need, and gladly share your thanks. Come near with an honest heart instead of secretly holding on to evil. I want you to know me as a Father who listens and loves faithfully.
If there is something to thank me for tonight, let us share it gladly. If a request remains, bring that too. I want this exchange of hearts between Father and child to keep growing through our time together.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 66:17–20
WEB17I cried to him with my mouth. He was extolled with my tongue.
18If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn’t have listened.
19But most certainly, God has listened. He has heard the voice of my prayer.
20Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor his loving kindness from me.
A short reflection
The psalmist testifies that God heard and answered his prayer, and praises him for neither rejecting the prayer nor withholding steadfast love.
