The Psalmist Who Longed for Wings

My dear son,

I care about your longing for somewhere to rest. You are not lovable only when you are busy accomplishing something. You are precious to me when you enjoy a quiet evening or pause to catch your breath.

If a day comes when you wish you could spread wings like a dove and fly far away, tell me that too. You may seek rest as a bird seeks shelter from a storm. As the Father who treasures your life, I want you to receive the care you need.

Enjoy some time to settle peacefully today. When another person needs rest, give them patient kindness too. Because your life matters to me, I want to offer you room to rest.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 55:6–8

6I said, “Oh that I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away, and be at rest.

7Behold, then I would wander far off. I would lodge in the wilderness.” Selah.

8“I would hurry to a shelter from the stormy wind and storm.”

A short reflection

Distressed by violence and betrayal, the psalmist wishes for a dove's wings so he could fly into the wilderness and find shelter from the storm.
