Worship from an Honest Heart
My dear son,
When you prepare something for me, I care about the heart within your gift. Before anything large or impressive, I want to meet the real you. There is no need to dress up your appearance before your Father.
Rather than piling up offerings while hiding your heart, come back to me honestly. I do not despise a repentant heart. Tell me the truth, ask for forgiveness, and learn to sing with gratitude again.
Speak freely about your heart tonight. Share what makes you thankful, and be honest about where you need to turn around. I hope your song rises from deep love instead of remaining only an outward performance.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 51:15–17
WEB15Lord, open my lips. My mouth will declare your praise.
16For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering.
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart.
A short reflection
The psalmist asks God to open his lips in praise and declares that the sacrifice God desires is a broken and contrite heart rather than merely outward offerings.
