Love by Day and a Song by Night
My dear son,
Let the love we share in daylight continue into an evening song. My care for you carries on as one day becomes another. Wherever you are, tell me about your day. Your voice is welcome to me.
You can call on me even on a day that feels like being swept over by great waves. Sing tonight about the love you received today, or bring the questions you still want to ask. Whatever shape your day has taken, I want to be near as your Father.
If a favorite song comes to mind, sing it quietly. If you prefer speaking, that is welcome too. Being here with you tonight is precious to me.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 42:6–8
WEB6My God, my soul is in despair within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon, from the hill Mizar.
7Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me.
8GOD will command his loving kindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: a prayer to the God of my life.
A short reflection
Far from home and deeply discouraged, the psalmist remembers God amid overwhelming waves and prays to the living God through steadfast love by day and song by night.
