Joy and Need Side by Side
My dear son,
It makes me glad when you welcome another person's happiness. That does not mean you need to fold away your own needs in silence. Love listens to both stories without erasing either one.
You can rejoice with those who seek me and still tell me that you need help yourself. Do not hide your own story in an effort to be considerate. I value both your smiling gratitude and your hesitant request for care.
Tonight, you do not have to choose which part of your heart to conceal. Bring me the names of those you love along with your own story. I tenderly love you when you care for others and when you receive care.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 40:16–17
WEB16Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let such as love your salvation say continually, “Let the LORD be exalted!”
17But I am poor and needy. May the Lord think about me. You are my help and my deliverer. Don’t delay, my God.
A short reflection
The psalmist desires joy and praise for all who seek the Lord, while asking God to remember his own poverty and need and to help without delay.
