A Simple Request for Me to Come Close
My dear son,
You need no long preparation to call my name tonight. I am glad when you draw near. If you do not know what to say first, simply call me Father. We can begin our conversation there.
You can offer a brief prayer asking me not to remain far away. Tell me plainly when you need help. I do not measure the length of your words before deciding whether to listen to your heart.
Tell me what you hope for, what makes you grateful, and what you still do not understand. It is all right to stop speaking and rest. Tonight I want you to know warmly that there is a comfortable place for you beside your Father.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 38:21–22
WEB21Don’t forsake me, LORD. My God, don’t be far from me.
22Hurry to help me, Lord, my salvation.
A short reflection
Amid suffering, guilt, and threats from enemies, the psalmist asks God not to abandon him or remain far away, but to hurry to save him.
