The Hands That Hold Your Life

My dear son,

To entrust something precious to another, you need confidence in the hands receiving it. I hope that as you come to know me, you will lean on me freely. I do not treat your stories or your life lightly when you place them in my care.

Entrust your life to my hands. Rely on my faithful love more than on things that shine briefly and disappear. I want you to know me as the Father who understands both your laughter and your pain and stays near with tender care.

Come close as you finish today. Share what went well and what deserves more thought. Tonight, hear this gentle assurance: you can trust your Father while you rest.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 31:5–7

WEB

5Into your hand I commend my spirit. You redeem me, LORD, God of truth.

6I hate those who regard lying vanities, but I trust in the LORD.

7I will be glad and rejoice in your loving kindness, for you have seen my affliction. You have known my soul in adversities.

A short reflection

The psalmist entrusts his spirit to the faithful God, relies on the Lord alone, and rejoices in the love of the God who knows his suffering and anguish.
