Answering the Invitation to Seek Me
My dear son,
Come close this evening and tell me your story. I do not want you to think of me as someone you can only observe from a distance. As you seek my face, I want us to know the closeness of a shared life.
Come worship and open your heart to me. If a day comes when even your closest human relationships fail to give you care, tell me about that too. I do not want you to know me as a Father who turns away and leaves you far off.
Know the glad welcome of your Father as you turn toward me. Bring your gratitude and your questions. I treasure being with you. Spend this evening at ease beside me.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 27:7–10
WEB7Hear, LORD, when I cry with my voice. Have mercy also on me, and answer me.
8When you said, “Seek my face,” my heart said to you, “I will seek your face, LORD.”
9Don’t hide your face from me. Don’t put your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Don’t abandon me, neither forsake me, God of my salvation.
10When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
A short reflection
The psalmist responds to the call to seek God's face, asks not to be abandoned, and declares that even if his parents forsake him, the Lord will receive him.
