Close Enough to Bring Your Questions

My dear son,

If there is something you want to ask me, please do not hide it. You can talk with me about what you do not yet understand. In a close relationship, there is room to admit confusion and to speak honestly about disappointment.

You can ask me how long you must wait. I care about the heart behind your question. You do not have to answer as if you understand everything. You can be my child who honestly tells me that you do not know.

Bring me any unanswered questions tonight. You do not need to manufacture an answer yourself. Right there where you call on me, I am beside you as your loving Father.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 13:1–2

WEB

1How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

2How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me?

A short reflection

Facing prolonged suffering and his enemy's power, the psalmist repeatedly asks how long God will seem to forget him and hide his face.
