A Prayer with Room for Pain
My dear son,
You do not have to make your voice sound beautiful when you call me. Tell me your joy as joy and your pain as pain. I am not a Father who listens only when you present yourself a certain way.
On a day when illness makes even your bones tremble, you can ask me for what you need. You can ask how long you must wait. Do not hide your pain from the Father who cares for you with compassion.
What would you like to say to me tonight? One honest sentence is welcome in place of a long prayer. Care tenderly for your body and come close. I am listening to you with love.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 6:2–4
WEB2Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint. LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3My soul is also in great anguish. But you, LORD—how long?
4Return, LORD. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake.
A short reflection
Trembling in body and soul, the psalmist seeks the Lord's mercy and healing, asks how long he must wait, and pleads for deliverance through God's steadfast love.
