Singing of the Shield of Grace
My dear son,
Writing to you this evening, I picture your smile. I want you to find joy near me. You can come simply because you are glad to see me, before you have any accomplishment to show.
Trust my grace as a great shield surrounding you. Call on me when you need protection, and share your laughter when you are happy too. The love I offer is close, attentive, and glad to share your life.
Bring me your desire to live rightly. Let me share your smiles on joyful days, and ask for help on days when you need it. This closeness between us matters to me. I treasure the time we spend together.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 5:11–12
WEB11But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice. Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them. Let them also who love your name be joyful in you.
12For you will bless the righteous. LORD, you will surround him with favor as with a shield.
A short reflection
The psalmist asks God to protect those who take refuge in him so they may rejoice, and declares that his favor surrounds the righteous like a shield.
