Love That Knows You in the Dark

My dear son,

The window has grown dark and the day has quieted. Even when you can no longer see what was visible in daylight, I still know you. Darkness cannot carry you beyond the reach of my care.

There may be parts of your heart that you have not found words for. You can bring me more than cheerful, bright stories. I am your Father, and I recognize and love you in the darkness, too.

Call to me freely from wherever you are tonight. You do not have to search far away. Before me, night is as bright as day. End this day leaning on the love that knows you.

Psalms 139:11–12

12even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.

A short reflection

The psalmist confesses that even darkness is light to God, whose knowledge and presence cannot be escaped.
