Love That Stays Beside Tears
My dear son,
You can come to me when you miss someone you love and the tears begin. I do not want to hurry your sorrow into a different subject. Tell me what you miss; I want to listen with care.
The tears Jesus shed before Lazarus's tomb reveal the heart of my love. Receive the tenderness of someone willing to grieve beside a grieving person. Comfort is available even before every part of your sadness can be explained.
If someone's tears come to mind tonight, sit beside them before trying to find an answer. If you need that company yourself, say so freely. Your loving Father does not turn away from tears.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 11:33–36
WEB33When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled,
34and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”
35Jesus wept.
36The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”
A short reflection
Seeing Mary and the others weep over Lazarus, Jesus is deeply moved and weeps with them.
