You May Receive Care
My dear son,
When someone reaches out to care for you, you may receive it gratefully. You are loved while receiving as well as giving. As your Father, I want you to know how to accept tenderness, too.
Remember Jesus wrapping a towel around himself and washing his disciples' feet. His love came close, kneeling down to serve. I want you to receive that same gentleness in the love offered to you.
Tonight, give thanks for the kindness that came your way. If you have an opportunity to serve someone, treasure even a small task. Share with your Father the joy of living together as people who both give and receive love.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 13:3–5
WEB3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came from God and was going to God,
4arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel and wrapped a towel around his waist.
5Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
A short reflection
Knowing he was returning to the Father, Jesus rises from the meal, wraps himself in a towel, and washes his disciples' feet.
