The Preciousness of One

My dear son,

When one sheep wanders away from a large flock, the shepherd goes looking for that one. In the same way, none of my children disappears into a number. I want you to know how personally your Father treasures you.

When you see the way back, call to me as you are. I rejoice in seeking you and meeting you again. You belong within the love that does not want even one little one to be lost.

Tonight, think gently about anyone nearby who may feel left out. Call them by name and welcome them warmly. Share with your Father the joy of holding one person's life as precious.

With all my love,
Your Father

Matthew 18:12–14

WEB

12“What do you think? If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine, go to the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray?

13If he finds it, most certainly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray.

14Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

A short reflection

Through the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus teaches that the Father does not want even one of the little ones to perish.
