Beside a Small Flame
My dear son,
Picture hands shielding a small flame from the wind to keep it alive. I want to treat you with that kind of gentleness. I am your Father beside you even when your flame is faint.
My heart is expressed in the gentleness of Jesus, who does not break a bruised reed. When your strength feels small, you can still come to me. Ask for tender care and cherish the little hope within you.
Tonight, be gentle in your judgments of another person's vulnerable heart. Offer needed love patiently. You, too, may rest within your Father's gentleness and set down the need to look large and strong.
With all my love,
Your Father
Matthew 12:20
WEB20He won’t break a bruised reed. He won’t quench a smoking flax, until he leads justice to victory.
A short reflection
Matthew quotes Isaiah's prophecy to describe Jesus' ministry through the images of a bruised reed and a smoldering wick.
