Prayer That Admits Weakness
My dear son,
What your heart wants and what your body can manage do not always match. That is why I invite you to ask for my help. Even a strong resolve leaves room for the care you need.
Stay watchful and pray so that you do not fall into temptation. Consider what situations to avoid and where to seek support, alongside your own determination. I am your Father, and you can speak honestly with me about weakness.
Tonight, attend both to what your heart needs to guard and to the rest your body needs. After praying, receive necessary sleep as a gift. Ask for strength to live while leaning on the Father who loves you.
With all my love,
Your Father
Matthew 26:40–41
WEB40He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What, couldn’t you watch with me for one hour?
41Watch and pray, that you don’t enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
A short reflection
In Gethsemane, Jesus tells his sleeping disciples to pray against temptation because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
