Waiting for an Answer

My dear son,

When you urgently need help, you do not have to wait for your voice to become calm. Your Father welcomes hurried words, too. Tell me what you need without hiding the feeling behind it.

A prayer seeking me does not need to be long or beautiful. A short request for help to come quickly is welcome. If waiting is difficult, tell me that as well. I want you to stay honestly beside me.

Perhaps someone comes to mind whom you would like to pray for tonight. I want to help you become a gentle listener for those in need. Entrust your own needs to me, too, and rest awhile.

With all my love,
Your Father

1Hear my prayer, LORD! Let my cry come to you.

2Don’t hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Turn your ear to me. Answer me quickly in the day when I call.

A short reflection

In distress, the psalmist asks God not to hide his face but to hear his prayer and cry and answer quickly.
