A Refuge When Things Shake

My dear son,

You can come to me even when the world around you seems to be shaking. Though mountains and seas may be in turmoil, I remain a refuge for my children. When you ask for help, I welcome you close.

You do not have to be perfectly steady or strong to stay in my care. Tell me what is stirring your heart, and ask for the strength you need. I am your Father, present even in difficult times.

If tonight is peaceful, let us enjoy its quiet. If your thoughts are busy, pause with me. You do not have to absorb every sound alone. Lean on me and rest your body and mind.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 46:1–3

WEB

1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;

3though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling. Selah.

A short reflection

The psalm celebrates God as a refuge, strength, and present help even amid upheaval that seems to shake the whole world.
