Reflecting in the Quiet of Night

My dear son,

When the night grows quiet, I want to share the day's reflections with you. Tell me what you have treasured and what you hope to learn. I want to be the Father whose counsel helps you live well.

Keep me before you as you consider your choices. Listen to my word for what is true and consistent with love, even amid other people's judgments. You can rely on me beside you.

Give thanks for what you learned today, and take your time with what remains to learn. Understanding everything at once is not required. Rest peacefully tonight in the joy of learning to live your life with me.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 16:7–8

WEB

7I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.

8I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

A short reflection

The psalmist praises God's counsel, which instructs him even at night, and trusts that God's presence at his right hand will keep him steady.
