A Refuge for the Oppressed

My dear son,

I do not overlook people whose voices grow small before those with power. If you encounter injustice, ask me for help. Keeping it hidden and enduring it alone is not the only way forward.

I am a secure refuge for my children who are oppressed. I will not abandon you when you seek me. Reach out to someone who can help and tell your story. Your worth remains unchanged.

If you think of someone who needs company tonight, listen to them. You, too, have a place to rest beside your Father. Let this day end with the kindness of people who treat one another's lives with care.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 9:9–10

9The LORD will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.

10Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.

A short reflection

The psalm celebrates God as a stronghold for the oppressed and a refuge in trouble who does not forsake those who seek him.
