Love That Listens to Tears

My dear son,

If you come to a night when tears arrive before words, do not wait until you have wiped them away to come to me. I listen while you cry. You may speak even with your face buried in the pillow.

A prayer need not be a clear, complete sentence. If a long sigh comes instead, I will stay with you. You do not have to hurry your sadness away to make me comfortable.

If tonight is peaceful, receive that quiet with gratitude. If someone enduring a tearful night comes to mind, offer them your kindness. I am the Father who hears your cries and does not turn away.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 6:6–9

WEB

6I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears.

7My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.

8Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.

9The LORD has heard my supplication. The LORD accepts my prayer.

A short reflection

After nights of tears, the psalmist declares that God has heard his weeping and received his plea.
