Lead by a Willing Example
My dear son,
If you are entrusted with leading people, first pay attention to their lives. I want you to care for them willingly and gladly. Consider how you can help, rather than how much control your position gives you over someone else.
A shepherd has responsibility for nourishment and rest. Do not let personal advantage or a resentful sense of duty govern your care. People will notice the example of what you faithfully practice before asking it of them.
If you teach or make a request today, leave time for questions. Prepare your own contribution well. I value the respect with which you treat people, whatever the size of the role you hold.
With all my love,
Your Father

A short reflection
Peter urges church elders to tend God's flock willingly and eagerly, serving as examples rather than dominating those entrusted to them.
