Kindness That Fits the Person
My dear son,
Different people may need different expressions of love. One person needs encouragement; another needs practical help. I hope you listen before offering the same words to everyone. Paying attention to the person is already part of caring.
Calmly help someone turn from a wrong path, and encourage someone whose heart is faint. When progress is slow, ask for patience instead of quickly turning away. You do not need to repay a hurtful word with another hurtful word.
If someone tells you their story today, ask what they need. Talk with me about how you might help. It would bring me joy if what you offer becomes real strength for that particular person.
With all my love,
Your Father
1 Thessalonians 5:14–15
WEB14We exhort you, brothers: Admonish the disorderly; encourage the faint-hearted; support the weak; be patient toward all.
15See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good for one another and for all.
A short reflection
Paul urges care suited to each person: correction, encouragement, support, and patience, while seeking everyone's good rather than repaying evil.
