Generosity in Working Hands
My dear son,
Value the time you spend working honestly with your hands. Providing for your needs and helping someone else are worthwhile things. Paul worked to care for himself and the people with him. His labor carried practical love.
You need not wait until you have much before sharing. Within your circumstances, you may offer time or useful help. I want you to discover the pleasure of giving alongside the joy of receiving what you need.
Do today's work faithfully, and respect those laboring beside you. Where you can support someone who is weak, share gladly. Instead of coveting someone else's possessions, make good use of the gifts already in your hands.
With all my love,
Your Father
Acts 20:33–35
WEB33I coveted no one’s silver, gold, or clothing.
34You yourselves know that these hands served my necessities, and those who were with me.
35In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring you ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
A short reflection
Paul points to his own work in meeting daily needs, urges support for the weak, and recalls Jesus' teaching that giving is more blessed than receiving.
