A Hand Extended with the Word Brother
My dear son,
A kind greeting can give real strength to someone making a new beginning. Ananias went to Saul and called him brother. Saul regained his sight, received baptism, ate food, and spent time with others. Welcome took practical, human form.
Do not mock someone's desire to change. Help them fulfill the responsibilities they need to face, and thoughtfully consider where renewed relationship is possible. I do not want people bound forever to only the story of their past.
Your gentle words or ordinary table may become a welcome place for someone today. Do not dismiss small acts of care. I treasure your willingness to receive a person who sincerely turns toward a new life.
With all my love,
Your Father
Acts 9:17–19
WEB17Ananias departed and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
18Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.
19He took food and was strengthened. Saul stayed several days with the disciples who were at Damascus.
A short reflection
Sent by Jesus, Ananias addresses Saul as brother. Saul regains his sight, is baptized, and recovers strength through food.
