Learning with the Spirit of Truth
My dear son,
It is all right if you cannot understand everything at once. Jesus knew there were things his disciples could not yet bear. I know that your learning also needs time, with understanding unfolding gradually rather than arriving in a single moment.
Trust the promise that the Spirit of truth reveals Jesus and guides into truth. Ask your questions and return to Scripture. An honest desire to understand clearly matters more than rushing toward a conclusion.
Enjoy whatever new understanding comes today. For a difficult passage, seek trustworthy teaching and read with someone else. Ask for the Spirit's help as you grow patiently. I watch that growth with love.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 16:12–15
WEB12“I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.
13However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
14He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and will declare it to you.
15All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.
A short reflection
Jesus recognizes the disciples' present limits and promises that the Spirit of truth will guide them into truth and glorify him.
