Those Who Sow and Those Who Reap

My dear son,

Some of what you enjoy today carries the work of people who came before you. The person who plants may be different from the person who harvests. Jesus told the disciples they were entering into the labor of others.

When something goes well, enjoy it wholeheartedly. Remember those who helped and those who prepared the way. Gratitude that recognizes you did not create everything alone can make your joy larger and more generous.

Do your own part carefully this morning. You can plant a needed seed even when fruit is not immediately visible. I delight in seeing you honor each other's work and rejoice together in what grows from it.

With all my love,
Your Father

37For in this the saying is true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’

38I sent you to reap that for which you haven’t labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

A short reflection

Jesus explains that one person sows and another reaps, and that his disciples participate in a harvest made possible by others' earlier labor.
