A Witness to the Light

My dear son,

John did not call himself the light. He pointed people toward the true light. You, too, can live honestly in the place entrusted to you without feeling you must hold everyone's attention. Your witness does not depend on being the center.

The good news you share is not a way to make yourself seem important. Let your words and actions tell of the love you have met in Jesus. When you do not know how to explain something, say so honestly.

If someone thanks you today, mention the people who helped. Share gratitude for what you have received. Like John pointing to the light, may your life guide people toward what is good.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 1:6–8

WEB

6There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.

8He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.

A short reflection

John is introduced as a man sent by God to bear witness to the light so that people may believe, rather than as the light himself.
