Consider the Road You Are Choosing
My dear son,
Tell me about the new thing you want to begin. I want your good intentions to have staying power. Like someone calculating the cost before building a tower, you can honor a beginning by taking time to consider what it requires.
Following me will sometimes ask for your time and effort. Look beyond the promise made in an enthusiastic moment, and consider the responsibilities involved. Find out what preparation and help you will need.
Be honest about the part you can take on today. Keep doing what is entrusted to you faithfully. I will walk with you as your resolve grows into a love practiced day after day.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 14:28–30
WEB28For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
29Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation and isn’t able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,
30saying, ‘This man began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
A short reflection
Teaching about the cost of discipleship, Jesus compares it to building a tower whose full expense must be considered before construction begins.
