There Is Still Room
My dear son,
There is a place for you at the table I have prepared. You do not need many possessions or other people's approval before you may sit down. I am your Father, and I welcome you because I want to be with you.
I also welcome those whom others overlook. Like the host who sent servants through streets and lanes to find guests, I want to reach those who imagine my love cannot include them.
Receive my love freely this morning. When you are gathered with others, notice anyone left alone and speak to them kindly. Let a small, welcoming greeting carry something of my heart. There is joy in making room.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 14:21–23
WEB21“That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’
22“The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’
23“The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
A short reflection
In the great banquet parable, after invited guests refuse, the host welcomes poor and disabled people and sends his servant to fill the remaining places.
