Keep a Lamp Burning as You Wait

My dear son,

Imagine a home with its lamps lit, waiting to welcome someone back. Jesus described servants ready for their master's return, then a master who seated them at his own table and served them. Their waiting led toward shared joy.

Let your expectation of me shape your day. Care honestly for your responsibilities and love people, rather than anxiously scanning for what might happen. Faith can keep its lamp burning through very ordinary hours.

Keep today's promises faithfully, and receive your rest with thanks. I value your small acts of steadiness. Live this day with me, with a heart ready to welcome a familiar knock at the door.

With all my love,
Your Father

35“Let your waist be dressed and your lamps burning.

36Be like men watching for their lord when he returns from the wedding feast, that when he comes and knocks, they may immediately open to him.

37Blessed are those servants whom the lord will find watching when he comes. Most certainly I tell you that he will dress himself, make them recline, and will come and serve them.

A short reflection
