Put the Light Where It Can Shine

My dear son,

If you light a lamp and cover it with a bowl, those entering the room cannot see by it. I want the kindness and truth you hear from me to become visible in your life. A small action is enough to begin.

Listen carefully instead of letting my words pass as familiar background sound. They can find a home in a courteous answer or honest work. You do not have to struggle to attract anyone's attention.

Make room in your heart for the people who come near today, so they can breathe a little more easily. Like a lamp showing the way, your sincerity can reach someone. Let us tend that light together.

With all my love,
Your Father

Luke 8:16–18

WEB

16“No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light.

17For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

18Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has.”

A short reflection

Jesus describes placing a lamp on a stand, teaches that hidden things will be revealed, and urges careful attention to how people listen.
