Love Paused at the City Gate
My dear son,
I am a Father who does not take people's tears lightly. At the gate of Nain, Jesus approached a mother burying her only son. Even on a busy road, he noticed this one woman's face and did not pass her by.
Take time to hold that meeting in your heart: Jesus touched the bier, raised the young man, and gave him back to his mother. My life-giving love became visible there. You may bring sorrow to me too.
If you learn of someone's pain today, do not rush to explain it. Stay beside them. I treasure your willingness to share joy on happy days and a quiet, caring presence on days of tears.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 7:12–15
WEB12Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, one who was dead was carried out, the only born son of his mother, and she was a widow. Many people of the city were with her.
13When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Don’t cry.”
14He came near and touched the coffin, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!”
15He who was dead sat up and began to speak. Then he gave him to his mother.
