A Generous Measure of Mercy
My dear son,
I want your heart to have room for people. Do not decide everything about someone from a single glimpse of their life. Both you and the people around you can turn around, learn, and grow.
Jesus urged forgiveness and generosity, describing grain pressed down, shaken together, and spilling over its measure. I delight in hands that give freely instead of calculating every last bit that might be owed.
When you speak about someone today, take care that your words do not grow cruel beyond the facts. Share what you can with gladness. Let the abundance of my mercy gradually shape the way you see and treat people throughout your day.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 6:37–38
WEB37Don’t judge, and you won’t be judged. Don’t condemn, and you won’t be condemned. Set free, and you will be set free.
38“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you. For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you.”
A short reflection
Jesus urges his hearers not to condemn but to forgive and give, using an overflowing measure to make them consider the standard they apply to others.
