Make Room for Another Voice
My dear son,
When you meet people today, you can take a little longer before answering. The first account you hear may sound convincing, but another voice may still be missing. I want you to know people patiently before deciding whom to believe.
Let the ears that welcome one person's story remain open to the next person's story too. Asking questions and waiting for an answer can uncover circumstances you could not see at first.
You do not have to claim you understand everything. Begin this day with an honest desire to know the facts. I am pleased when you treat both yourself and others as people worth hearing and understanding.
With all my love,
Your Father
Proverbs 18:17
WEB17He who pleads his cause first seems right— until another comes and questions him.
A short reflection
The proverb warns against hasty judgment: the first person in a dispute seems right until the other side is heard.
