A Small Pause Before Anger Speaks

My dear son,

Hearing a different opinion or facing something unexpected can stir anger. You can tell me honestly about that feeling. Before letting anger pour out in your words, though, give yourself a small moment to pause.

One hurried sentence can make a conflict larger. Waiting before answering and speaking calmly can open a way for an argument to end. Choose words that preserve what you need to say while treating the other person with care.

Leave a little room to breathe in today's conversations. In peaceful moments, enjoy listening to one another. Ask me for wisdom whenever gentleness is needed. I want to care lovingly for your heart as well.

With all my love,
Your Father

Proverbs 15:18

18A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

A short reflection
