The Field Before You
My dear son,
As a farmer prepares the soil and tends the seed, give attentive care to the work entrusted to you today. Alongside your good dreams, I want you to nurture faithfully the actual life you have been given.
When a new idea excites you, keep caring for the work already before you. Some things grow through steady effort. Quiet preparation and practice can become precious supports beneath your life.
Will you tell me what your small field is today? Begin calmly with a manageable portion, and rest when it is time to rest. I love you, and I want your hope to take root in the patient work of cultivating a sound life.
With all my love,
Your Father
