Testimony That Helps Protect a Life

My dear son,

Treasure the fact that your words can help protect someone. When an untrue story is causing harm, speaking honestly about what you know is a precious act. Truth can become a way of caring for another person.

Even when you want to help, keep your words free from deceit. Distinguish what you know directly from what you infer, and leave room for what you do not know. Upright thinking can help relieve someone's injustice through your speech.

When you discuss another person today, remember the life behind the story. Tell it accurately, beyond any wish to make it entertaining. May your lips care for people through truth and help prevent further harm.

With all my love,
Your Father

Proverbs 12:5–6

WEB

5The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

6The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.

A short reflection

Proverbs contrasts the righteous person's just thoughts with wicked deceit, teaching that harmful words threaten lives while upright speech can deliver people.
